I was about to buy a new dishwasher! Everytime I ran the dishwasher, my dishes came out dirty and chalky. The silverware, glasses, and dishes felt almost deglazed and touching them felt like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Of course, I blamed the dishwasher. I ran gallons of vinegar through it, thinking that there was something that was preventing the rinse water from getting through. I tried turning off the heat during the drying cycle. Nothing worked.
I had to wash everything by hand in vinegar just to be able to get them to squeaky clean again. What a waste!
Then, in desperation, I googled my problem and guess what? There were hundreds of complaints just like mine.
Long story short, it is Cascade with Dawn (powder) that is the culprit. The company (Procter and Gamble) says that
they changed the formula to eliminate phosphates and if you have hard water, it's going to create this mess.
Did they remove the product? No! Is there any warning that it might not clean your dishes? No!
And apparently I am not the only one who was tempted to replace my dishwasher. Some people went ahead and did just that! It's just wrong!
So if you are having this problem, call the company and complain! Get your money back! Tell everyone you know as well. You just might save someone from replacing a dishwasher that is in perfect working order.
