Happy Mother's Day!
I would like to wish everyone a Happy Mother's Day! Whether you are a mother or not, you have or had a mother, and that is reason to pause and appreciate the day.
Some people think that Mother's Day is simply a commercial holiday, created to sell cards. That may be how it started, but the idea of celebrating motherhood is still a valid and worthy one.
Mother's Day is, for me, a time of reflection, and I usually spend the day in my garden where I can let my thoughts flow freely about mothers, children, days gone by, and days ahead. I am a mother to three amazing young adults; motherhood is, by far, the toughest, most challenging job I have ever had, and it's also the most gratifying. Of course, when my children were all teenagers (they are just 3-1/2 years apart), motherhood was more challenging than gratifying, but on the most trying of days I would remember that I only had three, whereas my mother had seven. I often said that I didn't know how she did it!
But we manage the challenges, take pride in whom they have become, and look forward to watching them become parents as well. My oldest has recently become a mother, so today is a very special Mother's Day. My own mother is living in South Carolina and celebrating with friends, but it's nice to know that four generations may be pondering the same things that I am today.
Happy Mother's Day!
