I was out apple-picking over the weekend and saw this. I don't know what it is but it was on a tree in the orchard. Any ideas?

That must be the worm that gets inside the apple, and when you bite the apple you find there's only half a worm.
Peggy, that fruit looks pretty funny! But if the worms like it so much, it must taste wonderful.
Peggy...I researched my favorite websites and could not find anything close that would be on an apple tree. I am assuming that the brown part hanging down is an appendage to the round green ball. It almost looks like a variation of a castor bean pod...but I don't think those can grow on an apple tree.
Did you tell the orchard owner? I can't imagine the growth or attachment would be welcome there.
I am going to keep looking.
Peggy, I am not sure what those are either, hopefully someone comes along that know, because now you have me curious.
Thanks, everyone - I will try to find out what is is!
