Sadie Mae Foundation needs foster parents!
Sadie Mae Foundation Animal Rescue League is a 501c3 non-profit organization that works with local shelters and pounds to rescue animals from being euthanized due to overcrowding. For example, they work primarily with the Hartford Pound which will euthanize animals after 10 days if no one adopts them.
According to their website, they used to rent space from a local kennel but they have lost that space and now must rely on volunteers taking the animals into their homes until the animals can be permanently adopted.
Sadie Mae Foundation will be holding an information session on being a foster parent on July 22, 2011 at 6:30 in Vernon, CT. This session will provide information about everything that is involved in being a foster parent, and they are hoping that more people will want to volunteer to carry on this important work.

I've been a foster to dogs in the past and it is very fulfilling. It also is a great lesson to children about caring and loving and helping. Both dogs found great homes within weeks.
Peggy - There's a group I post to called Area Events - this would be a great blog to add there.
Hi Laura - That's awesome that you have fostered animals! And thanks for the information on Area Events--I will check it out!
Peggy, what a wonderful post and sure hope the public finds your post and assists Sadie Mae Foundation!
Peggy I would imagine that it has to be hard on those that give these animals a home for a short time and then give them to another family. I would think that even in a short time they would form a bond with the Pet.
Hi Joan - This is a great organization and I hope more people decide to volunteer or donate!
Hi George - I would think it would be hard to give them up too but the foster parents go into it just hoping that they can find good permanent homes for the animals.
Hi Peggy,
What a wonderful program. If I took in an animal, I would probably fall in love and want to keep it!
Lisa
Hi Lisa - They lost their kennel space and the only way they can carry on for now is to find foster parents! It is a great program and very dedicated people.
